ARTIST STATEMENT

 

Fiona Stewart is a Northern Irish contemporary artist whose work documents the rural Irish landscape

through the lens memory and place. Fiona paints on burlap which is a challenging material, but she feels the coarse weave has memory woven into it: from barns and gardens to old stored things; all within the corners of Ireland and home.

 

Since 2015, Fiona’s work has been exhibited in galleries across the UK, including a group show with the Northern Ireland Arts and Film Festival and a solo show at the UoA Gallery, Belfast. In 2019, she was a recipient of the iDA Award on behalf of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. She has produced commissions for award-winning playwright Lorna French and Irish poet Patrick Walsh.
